SR-624 BlackwidowBlackwidow is a sumo robot that I have built for the Louisiana Tech University's annual IEEE Robotic Sumo tournament.
Tournament Requirements: 1, Maximum dimension: 12in x 12in x 12in 2, RC controlled 3, 48in diameter arena 4, Must push the opponent out of the arena 5, No weapons or jamming systems allowed on-board. 6, No weight limit Engineering result: 1, Dimension: 10in x 6in x 3in 2, RC controlled (~1000m range) 3, 14.4V DC, 2x12A motor control 4, Sheet metal worked chassis (steel) 6, Weight: 6.4 lbf Funded, Designed, and Fabricated: Augustine Aelevanthara CAD Platform: Solidworks 2013 Update: (04/13/2013) Blackwidow secured 2nd Place in IEEE's Sumo Robot Competition on 13th April, 2013. The 5 lbf robot lost to its 50.1 lbf opponent in a 2:1 battle. Considering the outcome of the event, the IEEE is considering changes to its Sumo robot tournament by introducing different weight classes for its next event. The most exciting moment in the tournament was when the 5lbf Blackwidow pushed the 50.1lbf opponent out of the arena for once. If increased the weight (effectively increasing the normal force), the robot was tested to push 160 lbf. Hence, future improvement plans are underway to effectively increase the normal force by the robot to bump up its traction. Funded, Designed, and Fabricated: Augustine Aelevanthara |
